HEALTH  WATCH

Can a mouthguard make you stronger?

There was talk on Monday Night Football regarding this special mouthguard the players were wearing that improved their performance.  This also was mentioned in the Chicago Tribune and it is true that neuromuscular dentistry can improve your bite as well as your performance.
The mouthguard is based  on the same neuromuscular principles that I use when trying to optimize one's bite.  An improper bite can lead to poor blood flow, muscle imbalance and posture issues. When the the jaw is placed is a more physiologic position and the muscles are more relaxed, blood flow increases, the muscles become more balanced and stronger.  Plus, you get the added benefit of ridding yourself of some of the signs and symptoms of a poor bite.
Being a trained neuromuscular dentist  I  can  help  you  eliminate TMJ symptoms which can include migraines, headaches, neck aches, ringing in the ears, dizziness, ear congestion, pain or noise in the jaw joints and others.

Click here to see more information about TMJ dysfunction.

With timely treatment these symptoms can improve or disappear completely.  Call us at 312-266-0044 if you want to discuss a problem you may be having.

Toothbrushes

         Manual or Electric?

If done properly a manual toothbrush can be just as effective as an electric version.  Using short strokes of the brush at a 45 degree angle to the tooth at the gumline the tooth and gums can be cleaned well.  Two minutes should be spent at each brushing, which means about 30 seconds in each quarter of your mouth.

For that just went to the dentist clean teeth feeling, one of the new ultrasonic or rotary/oscillating brushes work great.  They have some great features such as timers to know when to move to the next section, indicators that prevent you from brushing too hard, and different speed setting for more sensitive areas.  The Sonicare or Oral-B Braun can be purchased at our office.  We will also be more than happy to show you how to use them.

Any of these instruments can  keep your mouth plaque free if used properly and in combination with other dental  cleaning aids such as; floss, mouthwashes, and water piks.

Ideally, teeth are made to last a limetime.  If taken care of properly you can enjoy your teeth for the rest of your life.  If you are concerned about yours please call the office at 312-266-0044 to schedule an appointment.

IN THE NEWS

  Dentistry in the News!
What we have
found
that may benefit you!

Stop Cavities in their earliest stages without drilling!

Do you have cavities starting between your teeth?  With this revolutionary new breakthrough, cavities can be stopped and the tooth sealed without drilling or shots.  No longer do we have to drill precious tooth away to fill a small cavity in between the teeth.  This saves healthy tooth structure from being lost.

Call us at 312-266-0044 if you would like more information or to see if you are a candidate for this procedure.

No More White Spots !

Do you have white spots on your front teeth and want to get rid of them without drilling?

There is a new treatment that will eliminate the white decalcifications left by braces and early cavities. A simple painfree procedure will eliminate those ugly white spots without any drilling or damage to the natural tooth. This will also seal those areas to prevent future decay!

If you are interested in learning more about this procedure please call the office at 312-266-0044.

Is A Cosmetic Dentistry Tax On The Horizon?

There is a new addition to the Senate health care reform bill that could have massive consequences for dentistry: a proposed 5% tax on cosmetic surgery and procedures and cosmetic dentistry will probably be included.

Now would be a great time to have those veneers or any other cosmetic procedure done to avoid this probable 5% tax.  Call us to schedule an appointment.
